New Moon in Aries
April 17, 2007
The New Moon in Aries - the blast off point of the astrological year. This is the New Moon for fresh starts, turning over a new leaf or beginning a new phase. Because Aries is the youngest of the signs, it often expresses child-like qualities, a kind of innocence with no sense of consequence . Aries wants what it wants and wants it now. It is important for Aries to look before you leap and not to throw the baby out with the bath water. Since the New Moon is about setting intention and Aries wants to charge directly ahead. One of the ways to defuse some of the more impulsive, even at times reckless, use of it's energy is through strategic planning. In mythology Aries’ sister was Athena, the Goddess of wisdom, who presided over battle strategy in wartime and the domestic arts in peacetime. Athena was born from the head (Aries) of Zeus .
With this New Moon we can re-energize our relationship with the inner Warrior/Warrioress. Mars, the ruler of Aries, is in Pisces and awakens the spiritual warrior archetype by taking action through compassion. The term Warrior needs to be understood in a certain light. To teach someone to be a Warrior is not necessarily to teach him/her how to fight, but rather how to serve (Pisces). The Celtic people have a saying that goes, “You never give weapons to a man who hasn't learned how to dance ."
Aries’ tutor was Priapus, the deformed phallic god. Priapus first trained Aries to be a perfect dancer and only later to become a warrior. The female warrior is often associated with the Amazon archetype, especially for those of you with Aries or Mars prominent in your chart. To embrace the fiercely feminine side of yourself, how to be assertive, initiate, take action and also to be feminine and loving.
This New Moon was powerfully ignited as it moved into a grand
trine in fire. With the Sun/Moon, Jupiter and Pluto all in fire signs, there's no
denying the charge of this configuration. It's hopeful, optimistic, enthusiastic
and joyous. If this past year has left you beaten down, depressed or wounded, this
is the New Moon to start anew. This is an excellent time to set your intentions
and to create a personal ritual to fight for what you want (Mars). This is
a New Moon that asks us to take a leap of faith (Mars/Pisces), to act bodliy on
our newly inspired visions. The Zodiacal Symbology by Isidore Kosminsky for 28 degrees
of Aries reads: "A lapidary holding his hand a magnificent amethyst, at which
he gazes admiringly ". This denotes one gifted with mental and moral strength,
power and force, who brings hope to many a sad and fearful heart.
Saturn makes its station and begins to move forward on April 19th after
being retrograde since December 5, 2006. Our plans for long term goals and objectives
can now come off the back burner and be put into concrete action. We can also come
out from back stage (Saturn/Leo/Retro) and face the world audience with greater
confidence and authenticity. One last thing about Saturn - if we could somehow put
the planet Saturn on our ocean, do you know what would happen? It would float!
Because Saturn is a gas giant it would literally float, so the metaphor is that during Saturn cycles you need to lighten up! Stop beating yourselves up and don’t take everything so seriously. Think of Saturn in Leo as a "Ruby mine open to the gifts of the Sun".
